Karl-Heinz Simon studied piano at music conservatories in Karlsruhe (with Prof. Peter Eicher), Barcelona (with Prof. Maria Jesus Crespo), and Cologne (with Prof. Josef Anton Scherrer), and gained significant inspiration through regular collaboration with Prof. Nikita Juzhanin from St. Petersburg.
As a professor of piano at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, he is dedicated to nurturing promising young pianists. His students have won numerous awards at national and international competitions and have gone on to successful careers as performers and teachers at music conservatories. Additionally, he regularly leads artistic and pedagogical workshops and is highly respected as a juror at piano competitions. Until 2018, he also served as artistic director for the Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz in Germersheim.
Karl-Heinz Simon has a special interest in analyzing and addressing psychological and physiological barriers to playing the piano.
In addition to his solo career, he has been involved in various musical formations, including a long-standing partnership as a piano duo and as a contributor to various chamber music ensembles. Furthermore, he served as artistic director for a chamber version of Joseph Haydn’s opera “Die Welt auf dem Monde.” He has performed extensively in German and European cities and festivals, including the International Piano Duo Festival in Bad Herrenalb, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, and Ludwigsburg Palace. His diverse activities have been documented through numerous CD and radio recordings.
